Late diagnosis has been a game changer for me and it’s led me to breaking down toxic positivity, turning feel-good memes on their heads, and learning to be my authentic self (still getting there).
Chronic illness, a brain that works differently, and navigating a world not built for people like me has opened my artist flow into the realm of keeping it real and telling it like it is. It isn’t pretty, and given the choice, I would rather laugh than cry about it. If I can make you giggle at the same time as my characters, then it’s a win-win!
Even from a young age, I remember spending hours colouring in or drawing. This love of creating carried on through my school years and led me to study Graphic Design at BA level.
I set up my business, which I ran for over 9 years, winning the prestigious #SBS (Small Business Sunday) award from Theo Paphitis of Dragons’ Den. I have a range of colouring packs and have licensed my work out, winning accolades such as the #WOW award (Women on Wednesday) from Jacqueline Gold and the #queenof award for Pencils.
In 2018, I drew for one of the biggest watch companies in the world in conjunction with the launch of their limited-edition Bremont Supersonic watch. Recognition from Tom Hardy for a portrait I did of his three dogs as his characters has made this year particularly memorable.
Working hard from my Doodle Den, I press and print the majority of my products to ensure a personal touch and quality every time. My biggest love is taking the ordinary and making it extraordinary with unique colour combinations and fantastical additions.
Combining new skills I’ve learnt on my digital journey, a new family of scruffy but lovable characters have come to life and are now available for you to buy.
